Favorite Demolition Tool
A few years ago, Matt Weber and I did a review of demolition tools. I don’t know that any other category of tools gets our testosterone pumping like this one. Well, maybe chainsaws and log splitters, but other than those this is true electronic machismo. The Bosch Brute is the big boy of the group and anything with that much mass should come with wheels attached. Word of advice, resist the temptation to let your wife turn it on just to see what it can do. I had a deck anchor attached to the bit and I had posed her in front of the house for a good backdrop for the photo. She triggered the switch and all of sudden we had a deck anchor in the front lawn buried up to its neck. Which led to another story on using winches strung in trees and tripods to remove buried posts from ground that didn’t seem that hard when the post went in.

Wayne Hart of Makita just sent me this on his Demo Tool and so here is Makita’s Big Boy!
“The new HM1317CB is the latest in Makita’s growing line of AVT-equipped concrete hammers.
“The new HM1317CB combines hard-hitting power and less vibration for more efficient hitting,”
said Anthony Corwin, Makita product manager, commercial products. “The HM1317CB is
engineered to be the most efficient breaker hammer in its class. And at 42 pounds, it’s easier to
maneuver than a larger 60 or 70-pound model, but still delivers enough power to get the job
done.” ”

hey man, nice blog…really like it and added it to bookmarks. keep up with good work
Take a look at this if you really want to break some rock or concrete, http://www.ezebreak.com/
Let me know if you have any questions and thanks!
What a cool system this is. I like the thought of opening up a mini mine with these. How many of you as kids, planted firecrackers in a dirt mound when you played army, or in your cowboys and indian games when just as your cavalry was about to be overrun you brought in the artillery, aka Black Cat firecrackers. Like me, you like things that go bang. There are big bangs like those used in Hibbing, MN. And there are small bangs like the EzeBreak.
And before I get all of the e-mails I am not advocating using firecrackers in the above manner, but as kids we did. Oh yeah, and I didn’t wear a bike helmet as a kid which probably led to brain damage and prevented me from becoming a rocket scientist too. However, as a college student I did work for DuPont making explosives and I do know what they are capable of. Actually shooting off Tovex and ANFO during that time were highlights of those summers. Once we were taken out to an open pit mine and saw a wall of rock brought down. The process EzeBreak uses is the same process on a smaller scale. Drill, fill and thrill is how we described the process.
The EzeBreak seems to be good solution for home builders who don’t want the liability of blasting during construction. The smaller charges should not result in any foundation damage to neighboring structures. Also local utility companies working with underground installations would find this product invaluable for punching through rock in areas without power.
