As a high school student I took classes in wood shop, mechanical drawing and machine shop. I built all sorts of things from book cases to a canoe. This experience made a lasting impression on me and a real appreciation of quality materials and expert workmanship. I always enjoy fixing things or building things. I think it’s unfortunite that so many kids buy or receive toys made out of plastic and don’t get the experience of puting together something like a model airplane, from scratch. The pride and pleasure of cuting, glueing, covering, painting and then flying something you built is far superior to buying a piece of plastic. When I see a quality tool box it tells me the owner has pride in quality or the person who gave it to them did. I knew a master carpenter who was a construction supervisor. He told me , the first question he asked people seeking a job was to see their hammer and tools . If they had a poor quality hammer he wouldn’t hire them. And yes, I would like to win !
Last summer I enrolled in a Basic Home Maintenance leisure class. Ten of the 15 students were females wanting to take charge of easy home repairs. I attended every class wishing to learn what could be easily maintained and just the right tools to accomplish these repairs. By the fourth class I became a Woman with Tools whose not afraid to use them. I’ve learned a lot about taking care of my home, but mostly, I’ve come to know about my spiritual joy in being able to understand the many ways the house has become my friend as we care for each other. Does this sound like someone of an advanced age? I’m proud to exclaim that in my sixtieth year I became an eager learner of all things tools and repairs. Winning your lovely tool cabinet will encourage me to rethink organization and expand my maintenance repertoire.

My Father and Grandfather were both Master Carpenters in South Africa. I learned to make things with both of them teaching me. Both of them built houses, furniture, doll furniture-which I learned to make.,as well. My Grandfather, did all the fine intricate details an ships, and cabinets. My Father built all kind of things, and many times, I helped with some of the smaller things, as I was just a child. Right now, my husband and I are building the basement of our home. It is a lot of work, but it is very rewarding to see the beauty of your own workmanship. My husband gets a little upset at times, as I have inherited my Fathers straight eye, and can tell if something is 1/8 inch out of place. It drives him crazy. I would love to be able to have my husband win this beautiful tool cabinet. He is learning more every day, especially about the beautiful workmanship in woodwork. Thanks, Cheree’
this is the way to start one’s interest in wood products and wood working
Elizabeth,
You have already won just by coming to understand your home and what it takes to keep it running. Keep up the good work and let us know if you have any questions.

Cheree,
I gave up on straight lines long ago. i can’t draw them, and I can’t cut them without lasers and straight edges. I can rout shaped forms and cut beautiful lines, but a straight line sends me looking for my guides every time.
Good luck with winning.
Working on or around the house can be challenging but with patients and the right tools it can actually be fun. Thanks to websites like this one challenging projects don’t have to be frustrating.
Great looking cabinet. I sure need to win!
